答案:(B) attached

解析

【句型】be attached to 字詞搭配「被連接/附著在」,表示電線被接到身體不同部位;adapted(適應)、related(相關)、restricted(限制)都不合。

四個選項後面都能接 to:be adapted to、be attached to、be related to、be restricted to,所以「看到 to 就選」這一招在這裡完全失效,非得看語意不可 — 答對率只有 49%。

The examiner attaches four to six wires to different parts of his body.(測謊人員把四到六條電線接到他身體的不同部位。) The sensors pick up signals from the person's blood pressure, pulse, and perspiration.(感應器擷取受測者血壓、脈搏和排汗的訊號。)

be adapted to(適應於;被改編成)主詞通常是人或生物,例 adapt to a new environment(適應新環境)。be related to(與…… Smoking is related to lung cancer.(吸菸與肺癌有關。) be restricted to(僅限於)例 restricted to members only(僅限會員),語意完全不合。

attach A to B(把 A 附加或連接到 B)、be attached to(被連接到;依戀、捨不得)、an attachment(附件;依戀)、adapt to(適應)、be related to(與……有關)、be restricted to(僅限於)、pick up signals(接收訊號)、blood pressure(血壓)。

A polygraph machine, also known as a "lie detector," is a common part of criminal investigations. The instrument is used to measure 21 a person's body reacts to questions. The theory underlying it is that lying is stressful, and that this stress can be measured and recorded on a polygraph machine.

When a person takes a polygraph test, four to six wires, called sensors, are 22 to different parts of his body. The sensors pick up signals from the person's blood pressure, pulse, and perspiration. 23 the process of questioning, all the signals are recorded on a single strip of moving paper. Once the questions are finished, the examiner analyzes the results to determine if the person tested 24 truthful.

Well-trained examiners can usually detect lying with a high degree of 25 when they use a polygraph. However, because different people behave differently when lying, a polygraph test is by no means perfect.

  1. Polygraph machines measure bodily stress responses during questioning to help detect lying in criminal investigations.
  2. Sensors attached to the body record physiological signals like pulse and blood pressure onto paper for examiners to analyze.
  3. While polygraph examinations are often accurate in trained hands, individual behavioral differences mean the tests are not foolproof.
