解析

語意「它讓孩子能夠隨著腳長大『調整』鞋子尺寸」,adjust(調整)符合這個創新鞋子的功能描述;explore(探索)、insert(插入)、overlook(忽視)都不合。

其實 adjust 有兩種用法,差別只在有沒有 to:adjust 後面直接接受詞是「調整」(adjust the size 調整尺寸),adjust to 後面接名詞才是「適應」(adjust to the change 適應這個改變)。

這雙鞋叫 The Shoe That Grows(會長大的鞋),空格後面是 their shoes' size as their feet grow(隨著腳長大,鞋子的尺寸……)。 再往後看兩句還有 can expand in three places(可以在三個地方撐開)、control the length(控制長度)、allow for different widths(容許不同寬度),整段都在講同一件事,方向非常一致。

explore(探索、探究)後面接的是未知的領域或問題,像 explore new markets(開發新市場)。 overlook(忽視;也可指「俯瞰」)語意相反,這雙鞋的重點正是不讓尺寸問題被忽略。

adjust the size(調整尺寸)、adjust to(適應)、make an adjustment(做出調整)、adjustable(可調整的)、explore(探索、探究)、insert(插入)、overlook(忽視;俯瞰)、grow out of(長大而穿不下)。

The straps on the heel and toe control the length of the shoe, 25 the two on either side allow for different widths. With this special design, the shoes can "grow" up to five sizes and last for at least five years.
