解析

did 在這裡代替前面已經出現過的一般動詞 influenced(避免重複講同一個動詞)。

His writing style, characterized by simplicity and understatement, influenced modern fiction, as ___ his life of adventure.(他的寫作風格以簡潔與含蓄著稱,影響了現代小說,而他充滿冒險的一生……。) 前面那個動詞是 influenced(一般動詞、過去式),要在後半句代替它、避免重複整個 influenced modern fiction,用的是助動詞 did:as did his life of adventure(他充滿冒險的一生也影響了現代小說)。 Do you like it? — Yes, I do.(那個 do 代替的正是 like it。)同型的說法還有 So did I.(我也是)、As did many others.(其他許多人也是)。

was:be 動詞。

as did sb/sth(……也是,動詞替代)、So did I.(我也是)、Do you like it? — Yes, I do.(do 代替前面的動詞)、be characterized by(以……為特色)、understatement(含蓄的表達)、influence modern fiction(影響現代小說)。
